Emil Thompson is a stone carver, sculptor, fine artist and musician.
Based on the northern edge of the Kingdom of Fife in Scotland, Emil creates large-scale sculptural works and smaller totemic pieces, including relief carving and lettercutting.
His work in stone explores and expands both the technical and expressive capabilities of the medium. Informed by his other creative pursuits - painting, installation art and music - Emil's work is infused with a uniquely expressive spirit. The reflexive technique of direct carving is at the root of Emil's stone sculpture and is informed by an awareness of the principles of truth to material. In this way his sculptural works strive to embody a sense of life and spontenaity; which is also evident in his energetic intaglio painting technique.
His website is called 'Stone & Ink' to reflect Emil's work in painting and printmaking as well as in stone. From time to time these media cross-over and inform each other.
