Artist Biography, Sam Wade

My kinetic sculptures tread a fine line between art and engineering, exploring the long tradition of form-through-motion by combining movement and machinery with a degree of precision, humour and truth to materials.

Kinetic; 'an assemblage or sculpture, made up of parts designed to be set in motion by an internal mechanism or an external force.'

I work mainly in brass, copper, wood, perspex and stainless steel to construct a sculpture rather than cast or carve it, often painting or gilding a finished object to add a further dimension.

I previously practiced as a civil engineer before developing my interest in sculpture more than 30 years ago
